Hello Wolf Girl,
I've missed you.
I've missed your fangs and fearless
laughter when you toss your head
and smile
I miss the lithe way you sprawl
on the rocks
I miss running in the woods -- you knew
each tree by the moss on the bark
and the scent of the roots near the ground;
we burrowed into hollow logs and
thickets full of blackberries.
Wolf Girl, I miss you
and the blue
mountains in white mantles strung
across the skyline -- a congregation;
you owned these valleys and rivers
and you knew without doubt
who you were, your fearsome heart,
your feckless grin, tongue lolling,
eyes shining, your unflagging gait
racing against lumber-loaded trains
to and from the world
where you reign.
I am glad
to have
found you again.
